Nikko Whitworth (they/them) is a bass player living in Vancouver, BC with a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Studies from Capilano University (2014). Inspired by the sonorities and repertoire of the cello, Nikko studies the historical practice of tuning the bass in fifths (one octave lower than the cello) and how it behaves in both traditional and experimental contexts. This exploration of tuning, combined with extended techniques and electronics, allows them to cultivate a playful relationship with the electric bass and double bass.

As a professional side-person, Nikko's musical fluidity has led them to diverse scenarios such as touring Europe extensively with Juno winning metal outfit Unleash The Archers and performing in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival on four separate occasions with groups ranging from quartet (Omianan) to twenty-person big band (Space Elevator). In the recording studio, they have been hired for sessions in state of the art studios such as Jacob Hansen Studios in Denmark and Dark Horse Recording in Nashville. As an educator, they are committed to creating a peaceful environment curated to the individual needs of the student that promotes growth and exploration. Nikko teaches lessons in-person and online out of their private studio in East Vancouver as well as at Deep Cove Music in North Vancouver.
